Welcome to Valentina Montessori and primary School, a co-educational primary school on Lanre Awolokun, Gbagada Phase II Lagos.Valentina Montessori and Primary School aims by thorough and stimulating teaching to give its pupils a sound and wide-ranging education in a pleasant, lively and homely atmosphere so that when they leave us they are well prepared for the next stage of their schooling.
The classes are small and we are careful to ensure that each child receives the attention and the level of teaching they need in order to make progress, so that they can take pride in their developing, understanding and in their ability to express themselves effectively both in speech and writing while learning to be patient and persistent in the face of difficulties.
Our pupils encounter a wide range of disciplines in Sport, Art, Music, Drama and Computing as well as in aspects of Science and History so that they can develop their own particular talents and interests. French is taught throughout the School. In addition there are optional Clubs in Swimming, Taekwondo, Hip-Hop, Ballet, Art, Chess and Book Club.
The children enjoy presenting the results of their own research into their class’s termly study topic.
In developing and expressing their own tastes and abilities, our pupils are encouraged to respect and appreciate the talents and tastes of others and the School’s buoyant atmosphere is founded on the children’s mutual respect and on the appreciation of their developing, understanding and competence.
Parents who would like to visit the school may attend one of our Open Mornings (on weekdays) or at other times by appointment. Where we will outline the School’s principles and its curriculum, resources and pastoral care. Visitors would be able to take a tour of the school facilities.
Children interested in gaining a place in Years 1 to 6 are invited to spend a morning or a full day with their prospective classes so that they can participate in the lessons and meet the teachers, and to ascertain their educational levels. Prior to their visit, prior school reports will be required.
In the summer term before the children are due to start, they can spend a morning at the school to meet the teacher and their future classmates. Parents receive an information pack explaining the health charter, arrangements for communication between parents and teachers, the uniform and dates for the coming year. There is also a Coffee Morning for parents and teachers during the first term.
We are always happy to answer any questions that parents may have. Feel free to contact the school if you have any other questions.
Valentina School Council is a group of pupils elected by their peers to discuss opinions and ideas with the head teacher and senior management team at the school. They may take forward projects on behalf of the pupils and contribute to the School Evaluation and Development Plan.
The School Council is attended by one representative from each class across all the year groups. Children are given a topic or area to discuss at the weekly meetings, relating to school life. The question is then taken back to each class and the class rep feeds back all contributions at the next meeting.
Topics range from improvements to the playground, playground equipment, behaviour at playtimes, conflict resolution, issues around lunchtime, the running of late class, feedback regarding homework and enjoyment of lessons.
Recently at Valentina School a request was made by the children for new playground equipment. A consultation was carried out to ask children about the types of equipment they wanted.
Prospective parents and others are welcome to visit the School. Please come along and see what Valentina School has to offer.
Order your child’s uniform from the school administrative office.
In the Second Term of Year 6, pupils sit examinations for entrance to their prospective secondary schools. Pupils usually sit entrance examinations for three or more secondary schools in accordance with parental preference and their own aspirations and abilities.
We prepare our pupils thoroughly for these examinations, giving them plenty of practice so that the essential nature of the examination becomes familiar to them and they are able to cope patiently with questions that may initially seem daunting.
Our pupils are encouraged to pursue and develop their own particular skills and interests from among a wide range of subjects and this helps them to give a good account of themselves when they are interviewed by prospective secondary schools. We also give them advice and practice on how to conduct themselves in the interviews as well as providing extensive references.
It is our hope that pupils leave Valentina School as confident, compassionate young people who are keen to learn, respectful of the views of others and ready to take optimal advantage of the many opportunities that will come their way at secondary level.
Valentina School library is fast becoming one of the most popular spaces in school. With its wide ranging collection of new books, imaginative displays, and themed promotions, the library is a cheerful, attractive and exciting place to be.
Our children love their weekly library sessions and enjoy browsing the shelves and choosing new books. We emphasise reading for pleasure and aim to introduce the children to books which will expand their horizons.
There is something for everyone, from picture books and graphic novels, via emergent reader chapter books and short novels, to classics. We also have a broad range of non-fiction. At Valentina School we take our library seriously and, together with paired reading schemes, it plays a key role in our literacy development strategy.
*Sports clubs will be confirmed prior to next term. Please note, if clubs are oversubscribed children will be put on a reserve list.
